Er. Samiran Goswami
He graduated from Assam Engineering College (India) with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in civil engineering department at 1989. Immediately after graduation,he joined a Consultancy Firm, M/S Gautam Baruah & associates, Guwahati for a brief period upto May 1990 as a Structural Engineer. The period of service, though brief provided me the first exposure to application of the academic knowledge of Civil Engg in practical field at Planning, Design & Drawing and Construction stage of building constructions.
Joined the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) in June 1990. NEEPCO is a Schedule-A, Miniratna Category-I PSU under Ministry of Power. NEEPCO is a power generating company which has constructed and operates hydro, thermal and solar power stations with a combined installed capacity of 2057 MW in the North Eastern region of India.
Journey in NEEPCO:
My journey in NEEPCO commenced in June 1990 on joining at the induction level of Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) and traversed through multiple responsibilities associated with construction of power plants, the most challenging being construction of Hydro projects in highly difficult and Geologically sensitive terrain of N.E. Region. Apart from construction, other responsibilities include services in Corporate centres, investigation activities for setting up power plants, project execution, contracts and procurement etc. We take pride in our capacity addition as NEEPCO’s present installed capacity stands at 2057 MW, with 1525 MW, 527 MW and 5MW in hydro, thermal and solar plants respectively. We operate the 600 MW Kameng Hydro Power Station in Arunachal Pradesh, the largest Hydro Power Plant in N.E. Region of India.
With progressive gain of professional experience, technical competence and sequential elevation in rank, currently functioning as Executive Director in NEEPCO since 14th Sept 2022.
Influence of Assam Engineering College (AEC) on career growth:
I consider the academic knowledge gathered during my four years BE programme in Assam Engineering College as the cornerstone of my professional career. It is experienced in my service career that almost all the subjects of studies undertaken during my 4 year BE programme have scope for application in the power sector in varied magnitudes. Further, I must admit that the excursions to projects as a part of our BE programme, guided by our honourable faculties had offered me the opportunity to conceive the application of academic knowledge in practice. I acknowledge that excursion to Karbi Langpi Hydro Electric Project in Assam (then under construction), during my BE programme has influenced me to join the power sector, where I am currently serving.
I owe a debt of gratitude and loyalty to my college and its esteemed faculties.
